Today is my Birthday

Nothing special, I went to work.

I did get a surprise call from my long lost friend Katie. Her and Tommy sang me happy birthday. It was great to catch up. Its been way too long.

I bugged Katherine to let me open my presents this morning before I went to work and was really happy with my gifts. Katherine is great!

The big thing today is that I got my Federal Tax Return check! Oh Yeah!

Monterey

Tomato Red is back in action and pretty much ready for Death Valley after a rather expensive repair and shakedown run

I went to pick up the Land Cruiser from Mudrak's in Sonoma last Friday. Cecil the champ helped me out with a ride. What a guy. He spent as much time talking with Mr. Mudrak about his knife collection as I did talking about the Cruiser.

Here was the culprit of the nasty whine coming from under the poor old truck for the past few years. Hint: it's supposed to be totally smooth.

Land Cruiser

Saturday morning we split to Monterey with our bikes on the back of the Cruiser. We cheated the rain and got in a nice two hour ride from Pacific Grove to Seaside and back along the killer bike path.

K's mom took us out to a killer dinner at Red House Cafe in PG for my birthday. Thanks Mary Lu!

On Sunday we took a nice hike in the Huckleberry Nature Preserve.

We took HWY One back home at a nice leisurely pace.

The Cruiser ran great with no issues and no more whine!

Sorry no pics, but since it was raining on and off we never took the camera out. We also forgot it on our bike ride.

Valentines 09 Usual place with unusual results

We started out by taking a four day weekend! Yay! We were supposed to drop the Cruiser off at Mudraks in Sonoma for a T-case rebuild, but the weather forecast for Cobb was 100% chance of snow so we opted to take the limping Cruiser to Cobb and drop it off at Mudraks on Monday on the way home. We did have to drop the Saab at the Adams Family house in Napa Thanks Mig and Susan!. On the way to Susan and Miguel's we encountered some serious hail:

Continuing on to Cobb was uneventful with no snow over Mt. St. Helena. We started to wonder if we would really need the truck for the 4x4 capabilities. That is until we got to Cobb . The snow level started just as we entered Cobb, and we new we were in for some fun.

Cobb is the snow level

The Trees were all covered in snow.

From our deck in Cobb

The deck had a nice layer of the white stuff. Luckily the driveway was navigable.

Now on to Boggs for a hike.

The Drive up (five minutes from the house) was easy –

Where does the trail start?

Trail? Boggs

Good thing we have the Human GPS to show us the way

Me and Winnie sure don’t know where we are going

Let's go for a hike!

Katherine took some cool pictures

Saturday was Valentines day! I surprised Katherine with a special card by the bed for her to discover – I think she liked it.

We went to Middletown for a romantical dinner at the Boars Breath Inn. The food was most excellent and we made it home with no problems during the stormy night.

Saturday night snowed all night long. I woke up at 3am and it was really blowing every which way. I new we would be covered in the morning. Usually the snow melts off the driveway by mid day but this time it didn’t and we had to shovel the whole thing just to be able to drive down.

We headed back to Boggs for a snow/Rain hike and drive.

We started our hike from the campground. Nobody camping in this weather.

Here are a few Land Cruiser beauty shots –

Can you tell that I have a love affair with my truck?

On the way out we came across some locals building an anatomically correct Snow Woman-

Unfortuntaly all the snow turned to rain on Sunday and Monday but we had a fantastic time.
